Blog — Spec-driven development
Write the spec before the model writes the code.
The spec says what will be true, what must not change, and how anyone can tell. AI drafts and tests against that document. A person still accepts the result.

The spec is the brief.
Spec-driven development starts from a written specification. The document says what will be true when the work is done, which constraints hold, and which signal shows that it is done. The pod is accountable to that document. A prompt is not a substitute for it.
At Perfectz Digital this is the outcome brief. Seats are not the product. The spec is. It is written before the speed starts, and it is the thing later changes are checked against.
AI works inside the spec.
Once the spec is written, AI-assisted development can draft the change against the clauses. Intelligent testing can turn “done when” into cases that run in the same pod. An agent can take the goal, choose the next action, and stop at the boundary. A workflow can carry the path: spec, build, prove, accept. Each of them is checked against the spec. None of them gets to rewrite it.
A change that misses a clause comes back. It does not ship because the draft looked finished. The return path is the point of writing the spec first.
What a client gains.
An agreement that stays put
The outcome is written before delivery speeds up. Scope is a clause in the spec, and a change to scope is a change to that clause.
A faster cycle on a fixed bar
The model drafts. The tests come from the spec. Review starts from evidence, against the same document the client already accepted.
A visible miss
The clause that failed is the one that comes back. The outcome is not buried in a long generated reply.
One document for both offers
Engineering work is held to what will be true in the product. Business work — an assistant, a document flow, an agent — is held to the job, the boundary, and the record.
This is the principle the company sells. Don't sell engineering resources. Sell engineering outcomes, accelerated by AI. Spec-driven development is how the outcome stays written while the engineering workflow gets faster.
